Lightning kills 5 Mexican children in prayer

"MEXICO CITY - Five Mexican children were killed when a large metal cross they were praying at was struck by lightning in central Mexico, local media reported Monday."

a newly discovered advantage to thinking that organized religion is utterly false happens to be the fact that i will never get struck by lightning and killed while praying outdoors next to a large metal cross.

i can't decide if this is pure cynical irony, an affirmation of some weird dogmatic principle, or what. should i laugh? should i feel pity? ... i mean... these kids literally got smote while they were praying. that leaves a lot of unanswered questions... it would be like my drum kit somehow beating me to death. i can't even make a good analogy. thinking about this for too long is making my eyes roll back in my head. the lord works in mysterious ways.

Being struck by lightning while praying seems to be a more common problem than we thought-- a couple of months ago a woman got struck by lightning in her own kitchen (!) while praying for her family to come back safe from a picnic. The lightning hit a pipe and went up into the kitchen, then struck her and threw her backwards. She told a reporter that she'll continue to pray to God nonetheless. Maybe it's just not a good idea in general to pray and be Christian.
